Note to Marketers

I write Jane Austen Fan Fiction (JAFF), which is very much a niche audience. As such, I am not open to suggestions to expand my reach that require me to spend money.

Most of the potential market for my books is already aware of them, and most of the people who would be interested in reading them have already done so. Yes, royalties will continue to trickle in, but these are not the kind of books that readers outside of the genre are going to flock to in droves.

Also, I am new to writing fiction. I will not publish a book that I believe is less than my best effort, and I do my best to make my writing as good as it can be. But I am still learning how to write effective character arcs, how to adjust the pacing so the stories neither drag nor rush, and how to balance angst, humor, triumphs and tragedies to make the stories feel more like my readers are experiencing them than merely reading someone else’s telling of them. (I do not know whether I will ever accomplish this, but I remain hopeful.)

If you enjoyed one of my books (or even if you didn’t), I encourage you to leave an honest review. But I am not interested in spending money on services that will potentially grow my audience, because in a niche market that is already aware of my books, the return on investment will almost certainly be negative.
